Education for boys and girls are not looked at the same way in India. And it doesn’t matter
how bizarre this may seem to you, the reality is that girls are married into other families and this means she is “paraya dhan”. So any investment on her is a waste.
This lack of education for girls made the sex ratio in schools widen. And a solution was to beprovided for tackling the lack of education and female foeticide.Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme one such initiative that helped at focusing on the problem. It was launched under Narendra Modi’s Flagship in 2015, the scheme focused on the menace of female foeticide. With special attention to Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Bihar. It has been almost 5 years since the scheme was first launched and the BBBPS website seems to celebrate many success stories (particularly about Punjab and Haryana). Though to our surprise, these success stories are at odds with the findings of CAG reports on Social, General and Economic Sectors (Non-Public Sector Undertakings).BBBPS’s main aim included improving the sex ratio in gender critical districts ( almost by 10 points/ year). Which was clearly contradicted in the Report from CAG, as the sex ratio had worsened in various districts of Haryana and Punjab. And not just this but even the assuranceof 100% re-enrollment of the girls who had dropped out was, left incomplete. The BBBPS provided a ray of hope for the girls who dreamed of education, but just like their dreams beyond the household, this scheme proved to be futile.
A scheme that aims in changing the core societal thoughts is always a tough one to achieve,And we should understand the applicability will be harder to achieve. Most of the programmes started in India have great essence and core values attached to it but when the implementation stage begins we are left with only excuses for the failure.
Every policy contributes to improving the ratio but when policies are not implemented and
numbers are manipulated, it sets us back by many years.
While it takes seconds for failure to be detected, it takes ages for success to be recognised.

From abortion of female foeticide to sex abuse, to lack of education, the feminine
gender of the society has to suffer it all. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, with the aim of curbing all evils against women in the society, was launched on January 22, 2015 in Panipat, Haryana. The programme is a nationwide scheme launched purposefully to mainly address the twin issues of decreasing girl child ratio in the society by preventing foeticides and infanticides; and empowering girl child through education in the country. The common scenes of Haryana and Rajasthan include inability of finding a bride for their sons, despite such a grave scarcity, people have become deaf and blind when it comes to gender biased sex selective elimination.
The scheme could partially achieve its goal by providing social and financial security
to the females in the country. There has surely been a considerable rise in the opportunities and freedom for education with the gross enrolment ratio of girls surpassing that of the boys. At elementary level, it is 94.32% as against 89.28% for boys. However, the sex ration increased in the initial phase but has shown a decline recently due to under-utilization of the allocated funds. The next big step should be to do away with the orthodox rituals, dowry system and conservative mindset of people for true upliftment.
