A DOUBLE STRATEGIC DECISION: Ban on Chinese apps

This move will boost India’s economy and would increase self-reliance when Indian technicians would create alternatives for the same apps. It could also lead to more countries following India’s cue and acting against these apps, said the sources.

Following the ascending tension in Galwan Valley between India and China, amidst a violent face-off between both the nations, the Government of India decided to ban 59 Chinese apps on 29 June 2020. The decision came as a bid to safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile users after the government has declared these apps as unsafe, citing the reasons of privacy and national security, a few days earlier.

The apps include a few popular ones among users, named as Tik-Tok, CamScanner, Xender and so on. Some perceive this as an effort of the government to bring China to it's knees and building pressure on it to de-escalate from the Indian territory at the border. Others connect it with the speech of PM Modi where he stood for the theme of "Vocal for Local" as a measure to improve Indian economy amidst the pandemic.

A ban on Chinese apps would cause users to switch to the Indian alternatives to some extent, giving our own technology a spurt. It will encourage the IT sector to stay ahead in the field of technology and provide similar services to that provided by other nations. This will increase the job opportunities for our own people and boost our economy.

The next to come in this regard is yet not clear but we stand to support our own economy grow, even if it's through our little scrolls on phones to support our own made apps.
